Ever heard of a Ph.D? Fyi, it belongs to one of those weird "liberal arts" groups, namely philosophy. I usually like you, but that was extremely ignorant.
Anyway, she has tons of money so of course she would major in one of those "rich kid" majors. The point of her getting an education now is to prove that she is actually smarter and better than most of you.

The majority of people go to college to get an education, so they can land a good job after they graduate. Emma already has a good job and her industry places a higher emphasis on youth and beauty than education. I would say that is truer for females than males. So if she earns her degree, would that open any more doors for her in the entertainment industry? Maybe so, but I believe there are plenty of doors already open for this young and talented woman. She can go to college and earn a degree at any point in her life and she only has a small window of opportunity in her chosen field. Why not make a few movies now and set herself up to be financially independent, so she can do whatever she would like to do after that?
I do not have disdain for higher education, but I do believe society puts too much stock into higher education. I don’t know how intelligent it is for someone to take out a large loan that they will spend a majority of their working lives paying back, so they can get a higher education, but are too young and don’t have enough life experience to know what they want to do with their lives. How about traveling the world, serving your country, or performing volunteer work? Education is a lifelong process and doesn’t stop after college. By no means am I saying pursuing higher education is a negative thing, but some of the brightest minds that ever lived were self taught or didn’t have higher education. If you look at society, you will often see the people that graduated at the top of their class are not always the most successful people. Sometimes life experience and persistence beats out a higher education.
If Emma does choose to go to college and receive her degree, how would that prove she is actually smarter and better than the rest of us? Just because someone may have a higher education than someone else, it doesn’t necessary mean they are more intelligent. It just means they have more education, but that doesn’t always translate into higher intelligence.
I would say I have a disdain for intellectuals that look down their nose at people who may not have the same education level as they do.

Emma should get an education because she is more than financially stable, and she should enjoy the experience of just being a college student as it is usually an enjoyable experience. An education is not necessarily about making money - though one can make money through education - but more about edifying oneself.
Society puts stock in education because education is society's foundation. Our constitution is based on political philosophy, our legal system is based on philosophy, medicine is based on science, etc, and all of these important subjects would be lost without school.
Your argument is premised on the idea that education is unnecessary to success, but in this case, you define success as merely financial. Success, however, comes in many forms. I believe Emma is choosing to go to school because she wants to be learned and also because it will possibly make her a better actress. The English are not better actors than us by accident, they are usually properly trained in both acting and understanding the English language. English is their language, not ours, and I say this because most Americans really do not understand the complexity of the English language, and we do not make full use of the English language. One need only examine Shakespeare or Byron to see how tropes are really done. To examine literature, as Emma has expressed interest in, you need to be in a college environment.
Sure you can get rich without money, but look at Britney Spears. If Britney had become educated, we might be looking at a different person now. This is not to say that education always endows a person with class and dignity, but that one has a better chance of attaining these qualities by rigorously examining those who came earlier and what they deemed worthy of putting to paper. I believe that Emma is smart for going to college and that this will only add to her stock. Look at Natalie Portman; her education sets her apart from her peers and she is usually praised for her Harvard education.
Finally, I don't think that intellectuals look down on the masses; it is more of a frustration because the masses think one way and intellectuals think another way. As for those who really do look down on others because they think they're smarter, well, they're really no different than the nouveau riche who think they're superior just because they have money so really it's about personality types and not about being educated.
