Many of those women have limited or no English, are first generation asian immigrants and/or illegals. What exactly would you suggest they do if not work there? It's not like they are licensed aestheticians or cosmetologists. I guess there is always the sex trade. But you're right, they don't have to work there if they don't want to. Dumb ass.

Few of us have the luxury of doing whatever we want, everyone has limitations, most of us work at jobs we hate. But within that range are options from which to choose. While being an illegal immigrant will further limit those options, the decision to come here illegally is voluntary.

That isn't a reason not to have some sympathy for people that are exploited or treated essentially like slaves. That smug attitude of "if they don't like it, they can do something else" is seriously lame. All of that aside, working in their nail salon is still probably better than the conditions in the country that they left, so like I said before, there aren't many options for these women. Being dismissive of their plight just makes you sound like an asshole.

You think they will be better off if people DON'T go to nail salons? Saying they are slaves is ridiculous and dismissive of the plight of real slaves.
Look, I'll support a revolution against the capital class, the richest 1% exploit everyone else, the capital class and the executive class exploit the working class, but these women in the salons are at best marginally more exploited than your average person working a job.

On a side note...
Believe it or not but those manicurist make decent money. I once asked one of the girls there and she told me she makes about $500-600 a week and that's not including tips. They make the most during the summer because people get their feet done.
