Rod Lurie's "Nothing But the Truth" is a spellbinding thriller starring Kate Beckinsale as a newspaper reporter who reveals the identity of a CIA operative, refuses to name her source and goes to jail for almost a year. The movie says it is "inspired" by real people and events but fictionalizes them. Indeed it is, indeed it does.
The story is drawn from events we remember and deals powerfully with the issues they raised. It conflates the stories of New York Times reporter Judith Miller, former ambassador Joseph C. Wilson IV and Sun-Times columnist Robert Novak, all involved in the same controversy after Wilson complained that George W. Bush ignored his findings that Niger had not sold yellowcake uranium to Iraq. Wilson's wife, Valerie Plame, was outed as a CIA agent. Source
