he new May issue of Guideposts magazine features a cover story by TV journalist and NBC correspondent, Maria Menounos, who takes strength from her close family life with her wherever she goes. Maria talks about her tight-knit Greek-American family and being raised in Massachusetts where her family and relatives were so close that they always felt connected to each other. Those feelings proved true again, not long ago, when Maria sensed something worrisome about her father, even though she was in New York City in the back seat of a taxi. After several frantic phone calls, she reached her mother who with a neighbor found her father unconscious due to a diabetic collapse. After her father’s close call, Maria tells Guideposts readers how becoming a spokesperson for the Diabetes Aware program is helping to do something about the disease her family struggles with.
