Photo Credit: AXELLE/BAUER-GRIFFIN.COMMany celebs were on hand at a private residence in L.A. in support of voting yes to Prop 2 this November. Prop 2 hopes to stop animal cruelty in farms. Here's more on the legislation:
Californians for Humane Farms is the proud sponsor of the Prevention of Farm Animal Cruelty Act, an initiative that will appear on California's November 2008 ballot. It is cruel and inhumane to confine animals in cages so small they can’t turn around or stretch their limbs. All animals deserve humane treatment, including those raised for food. Vote YES on Prop #2 to protect animals from unacceptable abuse. [Prop 2 Official Website]

People pay way more for animal flesh than they realize. Meat takes a lot of grain, water, land, and environmental damage to produce and is heavily subsidized with taxpayer dollars and harm to the eco-system.
Forget Prop 2, just stop consuming animal products. You and the planet will be healthier.

...and vegetable farmers are not subsidized with taxpayer dollars? Vegetable farms have no impact on the environment? What you say?

Plant products have much less of an impact because you are eating lower on the food chain (and don't produce all that methane and shit that pollutes water both above ground and under). It takes roughly 10 pounds of grain and 2500 gallons of water to produce one pound of flesh. Cattle ranching is also the main reason for deforestation in the South American rain forests -- they burn down the rainforests to create grazing land for cattle. The United Nations has identified vegetarianism as the # 1 way to curb global warming.
While we cannot eliminate the impact that 6 billion people have on the environment, we can stop being such selfish fucks and minimize our impact. If you eat meat, you are NOT an environmentalist.

You need to get your facts straight, your not even close on pounds of feed needed to produce 1 pound of meat and 2500 gallons of water is ridiculous, ranching is not what they are deforesting South America for, it's to rais soybeans and cotton. The United Nations is an idiot group with idiotic ideas.
I know, I'm a farmer and I'm an enviromentalist, I do more to preserve my environment everyday than you've done in a lifetime.
Enviromental impact? Pouring concrete and asphalt all over the earth so when it rains it can wash all the litter and grease and road grime right into the rivers and streams, thats environmental impact.
