Besides his slightly extended political rant at the beginning, he did better than most people would've done (remember when Jessica Alba hosted the movie awards?)

Russell Brant makes me laugh, I like him. I like how he weaves in and out of using very academic and eloquent language and then colloquial expressions and profanities. He blends it very well.
The guy has a very quick wit and he doesn't have a 'this is the punch-line attitude' he brushes over his jokes mid sentence so much of his funniness is lost on those not paying attention.
I have a feeling he's a pretty smart guy from the impression he gives me. A smart guy who is used to hanging around people less smart. But I'm reaching with the assumptions now.

Having said that, some of his jokes fell flat at the VMA's. He may not have been the best choice of host.
I've also heard he's a bit of a douche in person.
I'm still a fan though.

Most of the people who dislike him either haven't given him a fair chance, or just don't understand his somewhat intellectual brand of comedy.
