Plenty of people leave the church everyday, especially when it's forced on them by their parents. Both of hers are pastors.
It makes sense that as a young woman, she'd leave the nest and go nuts. That's what pastor's kids do.

yes, and imagine what she puts her family through, being one of the sluttiest and most over-exposed artists out there? not to mention, I was raised in a similar way, but never pretended to be perfectly focused on God and religion the way she did. She's selfish, immature and an incredibly bad role model, both for kids that listened to her Christian stuff and saw her abandon it, and for the kids listening to her self indulgent shit now.

So she was a slave to her parents back when she sang her other music? hardly. Either she believed it, and has now reversed her faith, or it was all for the money back then too. She seems like a perfectly strong-willed person; it's not like she was hypnotized into making her old style of music. She's just a sell-out and I have no respect for that, and in my opinion it was fake all along and she was just waiting for bigger and better things to come her way, regardless of what effect it had on her fans. No one has an excuse to be irresponsible, not even those "25;" she never should have started out on a path as a Christian artist if she didn't believe in it.

I mean, if you know music history, then you know that virtually EVERYBODY from Jessica Simpson, Beyonce, Axl Rose to Aretha Franklin to R. Kelly and everybody else started singing in the CHURCH.
THEY ALL START THERE.
To hold a record a girl made at 15 or 16 against her is just stupid, especially when the girl's parents are ministers. Who knows what kind of superstition and gobbledygook they filled her head with all those years.
It's probably taken her all that time to get over it and realize that she's not gonna go to HELL for singing non-Christian music.

lol a slave to their parents? I certainly wasn't. And if Katy is anything like me then she had a mind of her own too. My parents were far "worse" than ministers. In all likelihood Katy's parents were loving and normal, believe it or not.
you seem to mistake "people change" for "people sell out." Not to mention plenty of those celebrities acknowledge their roots and still consider themselves Christians.
I know Katy's type better than anyone, and have no respect for her. And at the moment, I have no interest in a debate about what everyone else does. that's certainly not going to change my opinion of her.

And how do you know she's "anything like you" and wasn't a "slave" to her parents? Do you know her?
I'm sure your parents are horrible, awful people, judging from your posts, but this isn't about you, this is about her, and I know plenty of religious people who started off as "gospel" singers and turned "secular". R&B music and Rock & Roll was built by people like Ray Charles and Sam Cooke and Aretha Franklin who were ALL gospel singers. Marvin Gaye is probably the most famous example. His father was also a minister and put a lot of religious superstition into his head that fucked Marvin up for life. He could never completely compromise his church side with his gospel side.
A lot of those people are fucked up. Don't act like she's the first or will be the last in a LONG line of people who quit Gospel to do Rock N Roll/Pop music. It's a fuckin' tradition. If you knew anything about music, you'd know that.
