"Star Suckers" - New Documentary Takes Aim At Celebrity Journalism

Officially hits theaters tomorrow.Chris Atkins, the director of "Star Suckers," focuses his latest documentary on the media industry (mainly British media) & society's obsession with fame. So, is this a sign that he's officially out of ideas or did he really fool himself into thinking that he was on to something?
Anyway, in the documentary, which premieres Wednesday at the London Film Festival, Mr. Atkins makes the audacious claim that tabloids are full of lies (shocking, right?) and the desire to compete for exclusive stories and most number of eyes in order to score fat checks from advertising clients is greatly damaging the credibility of all media outlets around the world. Here's a review of the documentary on CNN:
And, for those of you bastards wondering why the award-winning MoeJackson editorial team chooses to overlook breaking celebrity news (mostly fake) and report only the facts (what brand shoes, handbags or coffee a certain celebrity favors), here's the reason:
The subjects of celebrity stories are less easygoing about it. George Clooney, asked about "Starsuckers" by The Associated Press, said a combination of shrinking newspaper staffs and the Internet meant misinformation could spread instantly around the world.
"Somebody will write a story and it will be in 1,800 different outlets from one person's story," Clooney said.
"It'll be false, and you'll go, 'It's not true.' And they go, 'We're not saying that, we're saying that a London tabloid has said it.' They're just reprinting and reprinting things that aren't necessarily true."
Atkins says the problem is that the blurring of fact and fiction is not confined to celebrity stories. British newspaper editors are frequently former showbiz reporters. [Source]
