My mother lives in India.
..and go ahead and hate, that I have enough socked away that I dont have to work.
Although I do live in my mothers house, but that would be because I moved her when it was still my grandmothers house to take care of her in her final year while she was confined to a bed on a respiratory. When she died, my mother asked me to continue living her since she lives overseas working as a diplomat. I guess you could say Im housesitting for my mother on a very long term basis. Got to say I got a bum deal though, since I pay the utilities, property tax, and a lot of the maintence cost.
....or is that how I dream it is, as I sit her in the dark and damp of my mothers basement listening to the rattle of the water heater as my mother washes my piss soaked sheets for me as she has to every day?

I didn't say that animals are more important than humans, though certainly humans are, overall, more despicable than animals, and on a species-wide basis, less deserving of life. But that's a really complex discussion.

Look at bears in the north during salmon season and how they'll kill up to 200 salmon a day only to take one bite out of each one. Murder, rape...common activities in the animal kingdom. Selfishness? Humans are capable of good things, but the default position is to be narcissistic and apathetic. What positive traits? A small minority capable of empathy and selflessness? I'm underwhelmed.
The #1 concern for people who care about *other people* ought to be the environment, not just a little concern but the overriding, panicked priority. But people just want to satisfy themselves and keep pooping out babies and leaving a shithole for future generations.

I can't believe you don't see it. That IS instinctual. To pass the work onto others, to try to get as much as you can for yourself...these are instincs that were gifted to us by our ancestors. Why? Because it makes it more likely we'll survive. Does enlightenment actually increase a person's survival or chance of bearing offspring? Not really. Most of the time it has the opposite effect. So why would you expect our species as a whole to spend effort into something with none of the evolutionary benefits? The only benefits you get vary from person to person which would explain why only a few people strive to become enlightened. I agree with you that it kind of sucks, and I would love for people to strive towards being their best possible, but hey, let's be reasonable and let's understand why that ain't gonna happen.
Animals are the same. Why aren't animals improving themselves? Why do most animals try to steal others' kills by aggression rather than go out and hunt themselves? Why aren't they trying to become enlightened on how to use tools, etc?
Why? Because they're perfect in their own right? No, because it's inconvenient.
Everything you are describing is an ANIMAL thing (including humans), not a human thing.
And as Catie said, you criticize the things about humans that come from their more complex brain function without listing the positives.
Such as, humans are capable of fidelity, and respect. Two things you will rarely see in the animal kingdom except for a few other Humans are capable of conscious sacrifice. You will only see that in the animal kingdom on a techniaclity...mothers whose hormones tell them to be aggressive when they have offspring, and then they wind up being killed (although most will just let the predator kill the offspring).
Look, I'm not trying to argue with you here or anything. But, I've studied a lot of evolutionary psychology. Everything humans do on a large level, is a form of instinct, that is not different than animals', just built upon. Everything. From how we percieve, how we process information, how we navigate, how we cheat (which btw apes and humans share only because they are capable of theory of mind...thinking about what another is thinking...if other animals were capable of theory of mind, they would decieve in a heartbeat because it is a good survival tactic). All of it is stuff other animals have that through natural selection, we have built upon.

Do you honestly think people create waste and ruin our Earth for no other reason than to be some kind of Austin Powers-type villain? No, it's out of selfishness. They want resources as easily as possible and don't care about the negative effects of them getting it. Animals are just as selfish, and if they were as high in population as humans and were aware of things like plastic or cars that run on gas, they would have made them. Our act of wasting...IS an instinctual act. Just on a massive, more organized, more technical scale. Because humans are more organized, more technical.
Dolphins cannot perform malice? That must be a comment formed from watching too many Discovery Channel segments. Dolphins do commit organized murder. And so would other animals if they were capable of planning, but most animals aren't. However, most animals engage in ritual slaughtering of each other for presumed "threats" on one's leadership. Our malice stems from earlier animal malice. It is just more complicated now, because humans are more complicated.
And honestly, the whole Earth being destroyed thing...what a huge example of humankind's egocentrism. The Earth is a lot more durable than we think it is. We can "destroy it" but in reality, we'd be temporarily messing it up, which will cause our species to be wiped out and the Earth would eventually go back to the way it was. Everything is in equilibrium. You push the equilibrium one way it will eventually push back.

First of all, you CANNOT base an argument, a belief, a decision on what could/would/might have happened. Saying if animals were gifted with human intelligence, they would have done the same damage we're doing is, simply put, a DUMB argument. Based on your logic, let me create a scenario:
You're given the option to choose between two women. Out of those 2 women, one is a blind woman, who is missing a leg or two, in addition to being, physically speaking, ugly; the other one is your imaginary girlfriend candice. Are you going to choose the other chick over candice by sitting back and rationalizing shit by saying, "well, if she had genetically gifted parents, if she were not born blind with legs and arms missing,"......
No, you're going to choose candice. She is hot and enabled; it is what it is. She was born that way; she did not choose to have the physically attractive traits she has just like the other woman did not choose to be born unattractive and disabled.
Second of all,

Animals do NOT have unprovoked aggression; it is an instinct. The only time animals show what you might call "unprovoked aggression" is when they want to mate. They compete with other males, and again, it is an instinct, a very necessary instinct so the animal species can keep on reproducing.
Basically, you can't use "animals do it, too" argument to support your belief because it fails in many aspects, animals being programmed differently than us being the main one so your entire argument is null, assgoo. Some charities are worthwhile and need money not just volunteers. For instance I donate to a farm animal sanctuary every year, they can have all the volunteers in the world but they still need to buy supplies and have structures and pay vets etc., not to mention salaries of full-time staff.
About 90% of charities, however, exist just for the purpose of fundraising and paying executives and staff. They exist simply to continue existing.
And as a rule, if a charity's executives make more than I do, I don't donate.

People who donate money should really know where their money is going. And if you really want to help fight AIDS in Africa you should donate condoms. Lots and lots of condoms. And support sexual education and women's rights there.
