2012 Super Bowl: What Did You Think of the Madonna Halftime Show?
Monday, February 6th, 2012 while thinking about eating a Bastardly Mercado Certified lunch by Moe
Photo Credit: Splash News OnlineFrom a performance standpoint, I gotta hand it to Madonna for doing what she was paid to do: Entertain. Not many 53-year-old women out there can physically do what Madonna did on stage last night, so many props to her team of trainers & plastic surgeons. Having said that, I still think the NFL could've scored an act that struck a far healthier balance between old & new. Was it a safe bet on behalf the NFL or do they really think Madonna is STILL a cultural bridge between the ages? Maybe they were reluctant to allow more obvious choices like Kanye West or Lady Gaga b/c they might use the huge stage to possibly embarrass the league?
Also, I'm 1000s have already point this out, but Cee Lo looked like an overweight, gay Jedi in that sparkling outfit he wore for his duet w/ Madonna. What the fuck were they thinking?

not ashamed to say I liked it, she didn't sing but that isn't a surprise, she gave us what we wanted

Cee Lo stooped to a new low with that outfit. I didn't even recognize the guy.

Bruce Springsteen, Prince, The Stones, and Paul McCartney did not lip sync. Hell, I don't even think the Black Eyed Peas lip synced. Madonna did.
Plus, if I were picking songs among her catalogue, Vogue would not have been in the Top 50! She picked just one song from her prime years.
I was impressed with her physical abilities at age 53, but was it supposed to be an aerobic class or a musical performance?
Grade: F

I think she's so overrated. And her new song sucks imo.

I didn't really recognize the middle song, but overall it was better than a lot of halftime shows in the past. She recovered nicely after almost falling on her ass trying to climb up on those bleachers.

It was obnoxious and overly pretentious, but then I'm not a fan. However, it did look great and original even if she lipsynched the whole way. She gave the fans a good show. It was way better than what the Black Eyed Peas did last year, so I give her show a B-.
I found it hilarious that she's become a safe choice, and someone else got in trouble.

or maybe not stuff is always safe 25 years after the fact...
i mean how many pop culture controversies seems way tame/that's what had people going crazy/ wanting it banned/thought was too extreme. and circa now you'd go 'huh' ???
or if something was considereda bit 'outsider-ish' some version of it becomes the new status quo xxx years after the fact.even if that version is totally toothless. ;)
and gabbo, a good question when did madonna become a safe choice ??? in the 90's because ??? i've think she's had that status for awhile now. ha ha...
it would have been interesting to see who the nfl would have picked in the 70's if they had the same half time format they have now...

Everything and everybody from the 80's except maybe John Hinckley is now considered "safe". Ozzy Osborne became a doddering old reality star, ACDC songs are featured in superhero movies, Motley Crue's lead singer was featured on that disaster of a show "Skating with the Stars" and the "Surreal Life" and their music was used on a Kia commercial during the superbowl. Madonna just needs to make one more big cash in to pay for a castle for Lourdes...then she can either retire or do the nostalgia circuit like most artists from that period have done. All in all I thought she pulled it off pretty well.

Amazingly, I think it was when she and Guy Ritchie got married. She "became" British. They both seem to have tamed with that and having collaborated on the disaster Swept Away. It took Guy Ritchie ages to get back his respectability.
In the early 70's, my guess would have been Elvis, Cream/Clapton, CCR, McCartney without the Beatles (Wings). Late 70's: Billy Joel, Eagles, Bee Gees, Rod Stewart. Side options: Aretha Franklin, Marvin Gaye, Beach Boys, Temptations, Chicago.

I think she is starting to hit that point in her career where people aren't coming for new material, but just to see if she still has it and I honestly don't know if she does anymore. Yeah she maybe able to still move, but her new song is meh, and like Prince she sort of became tamed and it made her less interesting as a musician.

if that's true she could have just did a greatest hit thing/live cd with two new songs. ;)
but yeah you're correct phantom seems the few things i've read about her half time show mention her moves a lot more than giving an opinion on the the new song.hmm...
