Double Uh Oh . . . Bond Retruns!

Daniel Craig is back as James Bond in the franchise’s next installment, Skyfall. If you’ve enjoyed Craig’s ascent into the role of Bond since 2006, you probably won’t mind that (based on the stills that have been released at the movie’s official website) it seems to take place mostly in dank basements and poorly lit bathrooms.

Columbia Pictures and MGM probably won’t deter too many viewers by publicizing just how unglamorous the new movie appears to be (what, is Halle Berry gonna pop up out of the ocean in a burqini?!?), but they will do their darndest to get people to theaters by trumpeting its A-list cast that includes Javier Bardem, Ralph Fiennes, Judi Dench and Naomie Harris.

What what?! Ralph Fiennes? Yes, that guy from Schindler’s List is in the new Bond movie, though what he’s playing still remains unclear. Many assumed he was playing the baddie in Bond’s latest adventure, mostly since he spent so much of recent cinematic memory playing He Who Must Not Be Named; not so, as it’s been confirmed that Javier Bardem is playing the bad guy (he has a Spanish accent, you see). I would have guessed that Fiennes was playing Bond’s identical or near-identical brother (all white guys look the same, after all . . . dot dot dot).

But, alas, no. Fiennes has been cast as a replacement for M, the tough-as-nails pseudo mommy played by Dame Judi Dench, though even that tidbit may yet prove to be untrue. I’m sure he will rise to the challenge.

Though, come to think of it, why aren’t there any Americans in the cast? Surely some of us still look good in super scanty swimwear?
