Inside the Tube: "New Girl" Edition - "Valentine's Day" (Season 1, Episode 13)

Girls can be horny too, you guys! This was the theme of last night’s well written and generously funny Valentine’s Day episode of New Girl. Women, it turns out, are running the show – literally.
First there was Jess, who decided she didn’t want to spend her first Valentine’s Day alone in six years. Her plan, then, was to hook up with random guy she has no emotional attachment to whatsoever (you mean, she’s a guy?!?). Cece and Schmidt tag along to guide her through the perilous trails of Potential One Night Standom, though Jess being Jess is of course a douche bag magnet and she ends up passing on the nice, cute guy and going for the “web creator” (??) whose only passion is describing how much he loves tacos for lunch. Seriously, the man loves his tacos. Crunch. (Aside: do women really name their genitals like men do?)
Then there’s good ol’ Cece, Jess’s best gal pal and stunning model friend who is dating an oddity (with great abs) named Kyle. Kyle is strung out on shrooms for Valentine’s Day (awwwww!) which compels Cece to do something we’ve suspected she probably wanted to do for a long time now: hook up with Schmidt! They did it. And methinks Cece enjoyed it, thanks to the good people at the Ylang Ylang bottling factory.
And lastly, there was Julia, Nick’s lawyer girlfriend who really, really wanted to have a special Valentine’s Day with Nick but let her work get the best of her. Nick is disappointed, naturally, but he proceeds to one-up his disappointment with his own folly of getting Julia’s hilariously inappropriate intern to quit. Some guys just can’t win: and then there’s Nick, who when handed a win, hands it back and says, “No, no, really: let me mess this up.”
Winston had a decent storyline (mercifully) in spending his Valentine’s “date” with the girl he’s trying to woo . . . which somehow turns into a Girls’ Night In, pore strips, cotton balls and all. Winston plays along well enough, which works out nicely since he was kind of a douche to the nice girl standing in the door in the past.
Hey, if she can give Winston a second chance, I guess I can too.

I really like this show, but Winston... his interaction with his roommates is less and less. I hope he moves out by the end of the season.

He's never worked. Damon Wayan's Jr. was great in the pilot, and is great in Happy Endings. This dude, they must've just grabbed some random black guy off the street when Wayans had to leave because Happy Endings got renewed.
That Indian chick is hot. I've stopped watching the show, though.

I thought this was a good episode. The show had little direction from episode to episode in the beginning but it looks like there is some direction to the series now.
