Shakira Goes To Bollywood

With those gyrating hips and absolute penchant for grandiose gesticulating, you knew it was inevitable: Shakira, the ever-crooning wonder of Colombian persuasion with an Arabic moniker is headed East.

Well, Southeast to be exact, where she will be starring in her first ever Bollywood production.

Some of you may recall that she performed a Bollywood inspired dance number at the 2006 MTV Music Awards choreographed by famed Bollywood dance instructor Farah Khan. Khan, at the time, approached Shakira for a dance number in her upcoming Om Shanti Om which featured Bollywood megastar Shah Rukh Khan. That never came to materialize, but it seems Shakira has had no shortage of offers since from the world's biggest filmmaking industry.

Though nothing has been made official yet, The Daily Record is reporting that Shakira has entered the final stages of negotiations to star in a film entitled Desire to be helmed by Bangladeshi director Enamul Karim Nirjha. Should she finalize the deal and officially sign on, Shakira will also be singing on the film's soundtrack (with the London Philharmonic) and surely she will give her hand (or should I say hips?) at some vigorous belly dancing.

What do you think? Good career move? Or are we still not interested in seeing singers become actors (hint, hint Madonna and Justin Timberlake)?
