Yup, as I also thought, Never Back Down fails to modernize The Karate Kid.
Strike First, Strike Hard, No Mercy! I could go on quoting Karate Kid 1, 2, and 3... what's your favorite unintentional comedic line?
Amber Heard is the updated Ali Mills (Elizabeth Shue's character) minus the skirts and high socks.
If you really liked 'Karate Kid,' then this will be disappointing
Copying the underrated 1984 film nearly character for character and plot point for plot point, the new version takes away much of the charm and adds dopey dialogue and insipid pop culture references.
For instance, instead of the iconic, climactic crane kick, we get one guy pummeling another's head into the pavement. Instead of the hero and damsel having a charming first date at Golf N' Stuff, we get them rolling around together in his bedroom. Instead of the cheesy awesomeness of "You're the Best," set over the climactic montage, we get ear-gnawing emo tunes. Source
