I saw a show about him on Discovery Health and it said that when Richard's dad was asked if he gave Richard steriods and would he take a test, he declined to answer. Apparently, Richard's dad was the one always feeding him, giving him "protein" shakes, etc. so he might have been slipping him some steriods with all those fresh foods that Richard eats. Since Richard's dad went to jail for assaulting his wife, Richard has lost a lot of his muscle definition. Hmmm, how did THAT happen.

If I were her I would have packed up a few things of Richards and mine and left everything else. I know that is easier said then done and I'm sure it is very difficult for a woman in that situation. I have never been in that situation so I can't really boast about how strong I would be and how I would do this and that. All I know for sure is that a woman that is in that situation is not ONLY physically abused. The abuse does alot of harm to the psyche as well and she was mentally abused because of being put through that. It wears on the strength and makes them paralized with fear. It is hard to escape for them. It was a very strong thing for Richard to do that for his mother and I would have to say from what you have told me that they are both in a MUCH better situation now. They have alot to look forward to as well. I just hope that the mother can be strong enough to keep the father away once he is released. It is all very sad!

First of all, I am not stupid. And what you guys say to me does not influence my feelings about myself (self-esteem). Second of all, Richard CAN kick your ass. he may not be the strongest PERSON in the world but he is the strongest kid in the world. and he just might get off his ass and go beat u up. I read one today that says when he was eight years old he weighed 70 pounds and could bench over 200 (I think it said he could do about 210). he can benchlift (with his legs about 400 now). the strongest kid at my highschool (his name's Jeff May) was a wrestler and he was 3rd in the state of California. He could benchpress 400 and he was about 18. Richard is THIRTEEN and he can benchlift that much with his legs. men have upper-body strength. their upperbody is stronger than their lower body. females are the opposite. watch his videos on his official website, www.richardsandrak.com. watch the one on punches. it's rumored on the internet that he can throw over 100 punches (i think its 115) in 15 seconds. oh yes.............someone on this website....i cannot remember who, said that Richard got fat. (they were making their opinions based on this picture it seemed). look at the picture at the top of this page you guys. the word "fat" is not the right word to describe his body in that picture. you guys know that after his dad went to jail Richard's muscle mass went down right? so basically his muscles "melted" down to the normal size for a 13 year old his age. his body was just going through the "transformation process" or "healing process" or whatever you want to call it and he went back down to normal size. the reason Richard's picture doesn't look well, typical is because that is probably him in the middle of the time where his muscles mass was decreasing. I have a friend who could bench press twice his body weight (100 pounds) at the age 10, and he only worked out 2 hours a day 3 times a week, and trust me he was not juiced up because his trainers tested him regulary. I watched the TLC show and hurd that Richard also passed passed all the tests. It is physically possible to push our bodies to extreeme, i mean kids have the ability to grow on muscles as much as adults do. I dont think Richard Sandrak`s muscles are disapearing, he must off gained some weight and looks much healthier now, but they are still there he just started eating and stoped weightlifting for now.

it sounds like to me there is more hate among the posters here than staying on topic.

I admire Richard's determination, his motivation and love for health and fitness. The question about his father. Many parents live their lives through their child's eyes. Perhaps this is what Richard's father was doing. He had a drinking problem and abuse problem. That right there tells me he probably didn't love himself and maybe that's why he put all this self-love and added it to the love of his son. Maybe he felt that "HIS" life was ending and Richard's was just beginning. Maybe he wanted a better life for his son. Maybe he didn't want his son turing out like he did. Sometimes this can turn into obsessive compulsion. But there is no fricken guide book on how to be a parent. I don't agree with the drinking and abuse toward his wife, but besides all that, a parent can only do what they think is best! And I think that's what Richard's father was doing. Although maybe somewhat obsessed. But you have to remember, nothing great in this world is ever gained unless you work hard and dedicate your life to it.

With that obsession from his father, from what I read, Richard lived a very strict lifestyle and his father controlled his meals. I read on one website that Richard's trainer Frank Giardina, questioned his father because Richard's body fat got dangerously low, like 1%. If you look at those pictures, he had almost zero body fat. At that time, Frank wasn't happy with this and stopped being his trainer. (this is what I read, not sure if it's true). Richard's father being that strict, Richard became very ripped and lean. When his father left the family, I think he went to jail, Richard was no longer under that umbrella of control. I think it was at that point that Richard was able to do some of the normal things that kids do including ease up on the diet somewhat. That's probably why he has gained more "normal" body-fat percentage. I'm not sure now if Frank is back training Richard or not, now that his father is out of the picture.

Richard should be left alone to do what he loves to do. If he didn't enjoy bodybuilding he would quit. He obviously loves it. As for all this controversy This all sounds so familiar. I was reading articles about Jack LaLanne. When he was 16 he was ripped too. As he got older and more muscular, people called Jack a freak. I read an article where a young adult Jack went to a high school to talk to the youth about health and fitness. The kids mocked him saying he couldn't touch his toes or comb his hair because he was so bulked. They laughed at him, put him down, made fun of him, hated him. That didn't stop him. He opened the first health club and DOCTORS called Jack a QUACK and said that horrible things would happen to you if you followed Jack. Back then he was called a crack pot, today he is called an expert at 92 years old and healthier than YOU. HA go figure! Most of those people who mocked him and hated him are dead today!!! He outlived them! So doesn't this whole message thread sound familiar all over again today, right here on this fricken topic?

You are not supposed to build muscle so rapidly till after you are around 16 (depending on how mature the body is). That is like calling a heroin junkie successful and motivated. First off all working out would not hurt Amercian`s society now a days, if or not a kid is working out too much sounds like a familly problem, thats what parents are for...
