Batmorph, when people say America, they usually mean the USA. The other countries, with all due respect, are just not worth mentioning. It's not a lack of knowledge and understanding of geography being displayed here, but a lack of any real interest in any of the other countries in the American continents.

Canada is another country which is American, but it is worthy of it's own recognition. Mexico, Brazil, Argentina, etc. contribute very little to global politics and therefore are not at the forecourts of people's minds.

When someone says America, people automatically think USA, unless someone specifically says South America, then they access their memory stores for the countries contained in that continent.
