Well when you are in the entertainment industry the way the public perceives you is almost everything. If you are just some anti-Semite that runs a 7/11 in Bakersfield, North Carolina then now one cares, but when you are an actor/director people take notice. Opinions are one thing, but making blanket statements about entire groups is never a good thing whether it is an opinion or not. Some people use an opinion as an excuse to preach hate, and that helps no one and isn't a "right" as far as I am concerned.

I have always liked Mel, his ability as an actor has come a long way from Mad Max, it's a shame he is an anti-Semite.

Ninja after reading your post I am not 100% sure what you are trying to say, for or against Mel's comments. I never said he was my role model just that he has done very well in the entertainment industry thus far. I however think all religions are out-dated but I certainly wouldn't get drunk and start ranting about Jewish people. Many people are going to want to accept his apology because, well it's Mel Gibson so their bias feelings come into play especially if they aren't Jewish. Even I want to forgive him but apology's are only lip service after you get caught.

Like Jackie Mason said, a drunk will call his mother a whore. MG was totally trashed when he said what he did. Who knows if he really feels that way.. Remember, Hollywood was totally against Passion of the Christ, wanted nothing to do with it, claimed it was anti-Jewish (which it was not) and is pouncing on this opportunity to ostracise a man they already hate.

It's a shame if he really feels that way and negative "blanket statements" are not constructive...but the man was totally wasted. He wasn't "preaching hate." And regarding his apology, what do people want? If he didn't apologize, it'd be worse. I think he's truly mortified about what he said. Yes, I'll admit I'm probably biased because I like the guy (he's brilliant, but crazy), but the funny thing is, the people who are jumping on this opportunity to ruin him because of his hateful remark would probably be jumping for joy if he had actually died in an accident, which is pretty hateful also.
