Oprah Winfrey wears weaves sometimes. I think her hair is about that length But I know she has worn weaves. And Tom, wearing a weave has nothing to do with how nappy our hair is. Some women wear weaves for a change. White women wear weaves as well. The only way black women would end up looking like Dirty Bastard is if they didn't comb their hair. Last I checked, white women even permed their hair, they straighten it and they color it just like most people. It's a woman thing, not a black woman thing.

I've lurked on this site for a long while, and always think it's hilarious when you all go on and one about hair weaves. The fact is, regardless of race or hair texture, no natural head of hair will ever be able to stand up to the abuse of a wig/weave (in particular, the constant heat that all of these women's hair is subjected to in order of attain styles). Lots of times, these women have an entirely different haircut and/or color for whatever project they're currently working on. The healthiest, most luxurious head of hair won't remain so under that kind of assault. It's just not possible.

Bottom line, if you want to have maximum versatility and variety of hairstyle but not at the cost of horrendous damage to your own, you go with add-ons.

If you're talking about braided extensions then you are wrong because they also damage your hair. I doubt it's possible to find a healthy solution to a variety of hairstyles. I would think wigs are the safest because you can protect your own hair underneath.

Braid extensions mostly do damage if the person braiding the hair is a sadistic asshole. It's never necessary to pull hair so tightly that you end up choking off the follicles and killing them for good (aka Tension Alopeia).

Why would you say that "add-ons" are the best way to go if you consider add-ons to be any hair other than your own? In the previous paragraph you said that weaves and wigs aren't safe for your hair. Braids can damage your hair even if they're not put in that tight, they can cause your hair to break at the ends as well. Also, braids don't provide much versatility. It's not a huge deal though. I'm just saying!
