In Defense of Rachael Ray:

First, we have to understand what the Food Network really is. It is a network of entertainment shows. They do not really expect everyday folks to actually make the foods that are shown on the channel. Once I did make the pizza that Rachael showed. It cost me $20 to buy the ingredients to follow her recipie. You can buy 3 pizzas for $5 each from one commercial pizza business.

Second, one has to respect what Rachael has accomplished during her food career. She never went to culinary college like Giada and many of the rest of the food hosts. But, Rachael has a certain everyday girl next door appeal which makes her about a reported annual income of $18 million dollars a year. Who else writes so many cook books, tours around the world, endorses products, has an Oprah encouraged daily talk show, has her own monthly magazine, and more?

Third, she is the first to tell you that she is only a "cook" and not a "chef." How many of "us" are chefs? Hardly none. We are all mostly "cookers" of food during our everyday lives.

Fourth, yes, you can compare the physical attributes of Rachael and Giada all day long. But, it will not keep them off the network food and getting generous contracts. You can make fun of Giada's head and glorify her breasts. You can make fun of Rachael's voice and her figure, too. But, these women (ages 38 and 40 almost) are laughing all the way to the bank.

Fifth, what all the shows on the Food Network do is to eliminate the complexity and mystery of foods. So just accept them for their entertainment value and remember no one of us is ever going to make any kind of love to either of these two women.
