She's been in this country since 16 years old. That is 10 years of living here. I've only been living in america for 7 years and started learning english 7 years ago and now I am fluent and have been for the past 4 or 5 years. It doesn't take long to learn a language when you are living in the country because just being surrounded by other people speaking the language, speaking it to people you meet, watching tv, reading books, etc you just learn it without even trying.
