lol, it's common knowledge that "Sie" (capital S) in German is only used as meaning "you" when it's a formal (polite) address (which that clearly wasn't). When you use "Sie" in that sentence, calling someone a stupid cow, you look like a retard. Any German would say "du bist"... checking in a dictionary is not enough. You have to understand when to use informal address versus formal address.

Depends on what your native tongue is. Have you tried Chinese? Finnish? Arabic? Chinese is generally considered harder than Japanese by people in the Western world because it's more elaborate. English is not generally considered hard compared to a lot of other languages. It's a very well-structured language with fairly logical syntex and grammar. In my native tongue (Danish), there's some grammatic stuff that you can't simply explain to foreigners there are no clearly defined rules for why it should be this or why it should be that. You simply have to "know" it by experience. English is not like that. And then you have some languages where the same word can mean three different things depending on stress and pitch and languages with hundreds of characters etc. etc. English is pretty straightforward by comparison.

by the way, this has nothing to do with Lima but since you were all talking about languages and how fast you learn them, i just thought i'd share my story:

I came to america 2 months before turning 20 years old. I never studied English back in Serbia and didn't speak a word when I came to this country. I am now 23 years old and speak it fluently. I bought a dictionary, phrasebook, and went to a community college and took ESL classes. It took me about one year to learn the language pretty well and two years to speak it fluently.

It's not difficult! I barely even interacted with any english speaking people the first year. Most of the people in my ESL class were hispanics who of course did not speak my language and I could not communicate with anybody. I lived with my family and in a Serbian community where all the people on that side of town pretty much did not speak english (only the younger ones did).

Anyway, it was easy to learn because I watched TV, read magazines, listened to american music, had to speak english when going to stores, etc. When living in a country you pick up a language effortlessly because you are surrounded by that language no matter where you go (stores, out in public, TV, etc) and for me I wasn't even surrounded by many english speakers and I still learned it fast and easy.

Oh well, I guess everyone is different, eh?
