Marion Cotillard won the Academy Award as best actress for her portrayal of legendary chanteuse Edith Piaf in "La Vie en Rose" to become the first French performer since 1960 to earn an Oscar in the category.
It was the first nomination for Cotillard, who was a favorite coming into Sunday's award show in Hollywood.
The 32-year-old actress stunned audiences and critics at home and abroad with her physical transformation in the film that traces the life of Piaf, who achieved international fame after being raised by her grandmother in a brothel but saw her life cut short by drug and alcohol abuse. [Reuters]

the dress is amazing and i looooooved her in "la vie en rose", she was absolutely unbelievable as edith piaf. haha they asked her if she "knew anything about edith piaf" before playing her in la vie en rose. come ON, she`s FRENCH how could she not know anything about her?!?!

Absolutely beautiful. The camera kept showing her last night and I was like OMG who is that !?!? I had La Vie En Rose sometime last year but never got around to watching it, its at the top of my queue now though (even if she has a ton of make-up on to age her). Just stunning she is.

Marion doesn't look anything like that Indian aishwarya rai shit. aishwarya is an ugly phony dog that even a dog wouldn't fuck! aishwarya is always trying to pass herself off as white when in reality she looks like an average brown woman. She stood next to me and my mom at the Bombay airport 2 years ago. Everyone was staring at her and we didn't know who she was until someone remarked that she was the most famous actress in India. She look very plain and her skin was dark brown, not white.
Marion is French. She is elegant, sophisticated, classy, genuine, and beautiful.

Hmm...I was really surprised to see that everyone saw this lady as attractive. I think culture has a lot to do with what is perceived as beautiful. I'm Portuguese and think Aishwaria Rai (ackk! Can't spell Indian names) is gorgeous. And my coworkers and I all find Marion unnatractive.
Don't know what to make of it. But it's interesting.
