I find it *truly* hard to believe that a person's race can *honestly* stop you from being attracted to them (think about how white slave owners back in the day would pick black female slaves based on whether or not they wanted to have sex with her, and you have to be racist to own slaves, right?). You CANNOT control who you truly find attractive and who you don't. You can have preferences, but if a person looks good to you then they look good to you and you can't honestly convince otherwise (if you could, the world would be a very different place).

NO, no, no, no, no. Race may stop you from ADMITTING that you find someone attractive, but it WILL NOT stop you from being attracted to them. Trust me. Oh come now! You're over-reacting; only, like, 2 of the chicks up there look mixed (one is even full-on African!).

I admit that the media does tend to like slightly lighter-skinned black chicks, but it also tends to live slightly darker-skinned white chicks, so there is a bit of some unfairness on both sides.

Anyway, Tyra Banks, Naomi Campbell, Aesha Tyler ("the black chick" on Friends and old host of Talk Soup), Imani (old but still hot, not to mention full on African), Gabrielle Union, Traci Bingham and on and on are all non-mixed black chicks and everyone knows they're gorgeous.

Also, it's pretty cheap to assume that they have surgery when you (a) have no "before" pictures to base and argument on or (b) have no signs of obvious sugrgical enhancement. All black people don't have the exact same features so it is wrong for you to assume that they must of had surgery since they have features that you don't think look black enough. Besides, if you are wanting these women to look African then you're going to have to go back in time and undo all the miscegenation that happened in the slave times that result in American blacks having lighter skin and eyes and different hair types than native Africans (why do you think that black people with green or blue eyes (Vanessa L. Williams, Stacey Dash, Leila Arcieri, etc. and BOTH parents must have the alleles for these eye colors for them to show up in the child) is not unheard of in America but, according to my friend from Zimbabwe, is strange as hell in Africa (his brother has green eyes and it really shocked everyone in his town.).

Also, saying those good looking mixed girls look like darker versions of white girls is pretty racist. What do you expect? All black people don't have huge lips and noses and jet black skin. There is variety in blacks just like there is variety in whites (not all whites have no lips, no-nostril-having noses and see-through, veiny skin), so saying that they look white is absurd. They very clearly look like black women (if you saw them in a colorless picture you would still know they were black.

But, while I don't think Aesha Tyler is very representative of looking "black," I'd have to agree with Sasha on the line, "Besides, if you are wanting these women to look African then you’re going to have to go back in time..." African-Americans and Africans aren't simply the same people in two separate countries. I'd probably venture to say that *most* African-Americans now seem to have some effects of Caucasian physical attributes (I mean genetically). I think I'm going on a tangent here, but what I meant was that, while there seems to be a "white" standard of beauty in many cases, there's not a distinct line between 'black beauty' and 'white beauty' in America because of historical influences.

Anyway... could that girl's ass on page one possibly be more obviously airbrushed? It's kind of gross seeing the way they'll completely change the tone of skin in these pictures, too, from cooler tones to this sort of disgusting glowing brown-orange.

To the idiots who missed my point, I'm not saying these women are unattractive. But you're not going to tell me these girls are "black" when they're mixed and/or surgically altered to have more stereotypically "white" features.

And to whoever it was who said that that some of those light-skinned black actresses/models weren't mixed, you're just confused. They may both have parents who appear to be "black", but that doesn't mean there's not racial mixing in their family tree. If one of my parents was a friggin' albino and the other was darker than Samuel Jackson, I could be appear to be dark-skinned black, I could be fair-skinned (depending on the truth in my family tree) or I could be anywhere in between...but no matter what I appeared to be, I'd still be mixed. I'd hate for this to turn into some sort of Jerry Springer episode because pinheads don't understand genetics...but, seriously, buy a clue.

Oh, same for white people. There are a surprising number of pre-Civil War whites who, through DNA testing, have discovered that they have black ancestors. If you have a few hundred dollars to throw around you could find out what's in your ancestry that you might not know about. That's how Oprah found out she was part Zulu.

Sessy, I still bet these chicks have better and more even skin tone than Lindsay Lohan. Why do you think people tan, darker skin camouflages flaws better. So some of these girls can have great skin, great muscle tone, and all you've have to do is oil the skin up - the light reflection hides even more imperfection, voila, you can fake perfect skin.
So it may just be the combo of that AND some airbrushing that bothering your eyes.

As for the light/dark thing, Sasha I hear you, but its really hard to find more stereotypically "West/Central African" features in the Western Hemisphere as this point. We've just been mingling for way too long, and its really worthless to harp over this issue anymore. These women have come a long way from Lena Horne and Dorothy Dandridge's near white asses. Frankly more women on this side of world are far more likely to resemble Gabriel Union or Angela Basset than Alek Wek (who I think is stunning by the way.) Liya Kebede and Iman are both African don't have the same features. Let's just accept that the gene pool has alot swimming in it, and continue to admire the shiny butts!

(btw, I'm a Caribbean woman and well aware of this issue. I was also taught the visual magic of baby oil applied to the cheeks by a special someone, LOL LOL)

You cannot compare a black woman to a white pasty creature like Lindsey Lohan. She's got freckled skin only on certain parts of her body anyways. What I meant to say is that these women all have the same hue of skin everywhere. Looks kinda orange. Doesn't matter how much baby oil you have on or how dark you are(unless you are BLACK BLACK) natural skin is never all one color. The first two pics prove that there is A LOT airbrushing a some type of coloration filled in to make them look that way. They are beaming very brightly, the lines where their arms and legs bend are perfect and they look sorta orange.

All the people on my campus that I know to be African have very dark skin, and most black people in America have medium toned skin. I know there are dark skinned black Americans (of course!) because black people in America can be a variety of colors, from extra pale (I know black people who go to the tanner to not look so pale in the summer) to extremely dark (all due to having different nationalites in their ancestry) but I've never seen an African person with light skin unless they are mixed with something else.

By the way, when I say African I'm not talking about the people from Northern Africa, near Europe. Of course their skin will be lighter because their anestors didn't need as much protection from the sun and, thus, had lighter skin (less melanin to protect from the sun) (example: I know two girls whose parents are from Egypt and they have light brown skin). With that in mind, I guess I should've said "You can *usually* tell on sight," (even though, when I think of Africans, I don't usually think of the tan-skinned, curly haired Northern Africans - whoops!)

I went to this speaker last semester and he said that, even though he's not biracial, the people in the tribe he visited laughed at him for being crazy enough to go around saying he was black, because to them he was white (they thought he was biracial and therefore white, like how in America most people see a biracial person as being black).The Africans could see a difference, so why not vice vera?

Also, if you're not used to seeing a lot of black people "in real life" then you might not notice much variation (you figure, they all have brown skin and, therefore, look alike).

Case in point, I volunteered over in a small town in Romania for a while last year and a guy on the trip was mistaken for being from Sudan (I don't know why Sudan in particular), even though I wouldn't look at him and think he was anything other than American. He was also told he looked like Cassius Clay (Mohammed Ali) even though he doesn't.

I was told I looked like Beyonce, a young Whitney Houston (I would have been offended if they hadn't thrown "young" on there!), Ashanti and even this soccer player (who was Brazilian, no less). People (even my parents and siblings!) in America always tell me I'm a deadringer for Lisa Bonet (Denise from the Cosby Show). None of those girls even look like *each other*, much less like "Denise." I get tons of variation in Romania compared to only one in America. I think that the more experience you have with Black people the more you realize we don't all look alike.

You can also *(usually)* tell white Americans from white Europeans. Sometimes you can just look at someone and think, "Damn, that dude looks extremely English," and he turns out to be English. *Supposedly*, Europeans can always tell where another European is from just by looking at them (same with people in Asia).

The moral of the story: I guess I should have said "usually' or "most of the time" instead of implying "always." I stand by original statement, amended with "usually."
