"I was under no illusions when I took the job," she said. "I knew the best-case scenario was it would be a huge hit.

"But even if it wasn't, I knew I'd have a great experience. It was amazing for a 22-year-old Brit to play that kind of American lead."

"The show went through a lot of changes and was finding its direction as we went along," she explains.

You would think a career in America and international fame would make actress Michelle Ryan happy - but apparently not.

The leggy brunette, who found fame in the BBC One soap EastEnders, playing mouthy teenager Zoe Slater, hopped over the pond to star in a remake of the vintage series The Bionic Woman.

While filming the show, Ryan set up house in Vancouver, Canada, and revealed how much she loved being there to What's On TV.

Ryan was born in Enfield, Greater London. A member of a local theatre group since she was 10, she was picked for her role in EastEnders when she was 15 and first appeared on the show in September 2000; for the part, she affect an East End cockney accent, rather than speaking her usual Received Pronunciation.
