Misty May Treanor & Kerri Walsh @ 2008 Olympics vs Norway

Norwegian opponents are Nila Haakedal and Ingrid Toerlen.

Earlier this week, we posted up a couple other sets of these two beach volleyball hotties. Check it here & here.

Early starts and wins for Kerri Walsh and Misty May-Treanor
"I love them because I like to tell myself I'm more awake than everyone else," said the always-hyper Walsh. "I wake up so excited to play and eager. We basically have had two days off in between matches, which is enough to give me a heart attack. I've been dreaming of these Norwegians for two nights. It was great to finally see them."

And beat them. The 11th-seeded duo of Nila Haakedal and Ingrid Toerlen fell 21-12, 21-15 today as Walsh and May-Treanor concluded pool play with a 3-0 mark.

From the time Walsh powered home a spike to open the match to the moment her ace caught the backline to end it, only 37 minutes had elapsed.

The triumph marked the U.S. duo's 65th straight overall and 10th straight in the Olympics, a record.

"There's a reason they haven't lost a match in more than a year," Toerlen said.

With tennis star Lindsay Davenport and 91% humidity in the house at Chaoyang Park Beach Volleyball Ground, the U.S. team converted on 24 of 39 attack chances and tallied five aces.

Not surprisingly for a duo intent on perfection, those aren't the statistics with which they were concerned.

"Aside from passing, I think we played OK, but you have to pass," Walsh said. "They aced me at least five times and that can't happen. That's five easy points where we have no chance. We just have to keep the ball in play." [LA Times]

Misty May Treanor & Kerri Walsh - Match vs. Cuba

Beach volleyball: Misty May-Treanor, Kerri Walsh win again
Misty May-Treanor and Kerri Walsh are at 103 and counting, having extended their beach volleyball winning streak with a 21-15, 21-16 victory Tuesday over Cuba's Dalixia Fernandez Grasset and Tamara Larrea.

In improving to 2-0 in the Olympic tournament, the defending champions have had little drama in competition. Their drama came during the first match when Walsh lost her wedding ring in the sand.

Chinese volunteers found it after a long search with metal detectors and security wands.

Walsh, who is married to pro beach volleyball player Casey Jennings, wore the ring Tuesday, with a bandage over it to keep it in place.

"I didn't know I was superstitious about it until I lost it,'' she said. LA Times

Misty May Treanor & Kerri Walsh @ 2008 Olympics in Beijing

Misty May-Treanor, Kerri Walsh open with win
"Everyone comes to play ball. You have to go out there like you're playing the No. 1 seed, which is what Misty and I do. But that was a little wake-up call, to be sure."

Despite their world standing, May-Treanor and Walsh are seeded No. 2 here and China No. 1.

"It's one match and done," May-Treanor said. "We have many to go. We're here for the same reason that everyone else is here, to stand on the top podium." Source
