"Tropic Thunder": too much promise, not enough delivery
It's mid-August, the summer movie season is waning, and audiences numbed by their 10th viewing of "The Dark Knight" are ready to laugh. So the sporadically funny "Tropic Thunder," directed by and starring Ben Stiller, may well get a boost it doesn't entirely earn. (I can see the quotes on the ads now: "Not At All The Worst Comedy To Come Out This Summer!")

The film is a movie-within-a-movie comedy about a group of spoiled actors making a wildly over-budget war movie — five days into shooting, they're a month behind schedule. Sent into the jungles of Southeast Asia to find some motivation, they become unintentionally entangled in real-life peril at the hands of drug lords. [Seattle Times]

About the movie:
Tropic Thunder is an 2008 action comedy film directed by Ben Stiller and starring Stiller, Jack Black and Robert Downey Jr. as a group of prima donna actors filming a Vietnam War movie when their fed-up writer-director decides to dump them in the middle of a real war. It is due for release on August 13, 2008.

Before the film, three fake trailers will be shown, similar to the 2007 film Grindhouse. The first trailer shows Tugg Speedman's latest film, "Scorcher VI: Global Meltdown". Another trailer is for Jeff Portnoy's film, "The Fatties: Fart 2", which spoofs Eddie Murphy's portrayal of multiple characters such as in Nutty Professor II: The Klumps.[4] The final trailer, entitled "Satan's Alley", features Kirk Lazarus and Tobey Maguire.
