Silke Spiegelburg (born March 17, 1986, Georgsmarienhütte) is a German pole vaulter. She is the younger sister of Richard Spiegelburg.

She finished sixth in the pole vault final at the 2006 European Athletics Championships in Gothenburg. She also competed in the 2004 Olympics.

Her personal best is 4.70 metres, achieved in July 2008 in Rome. This ranks her joint second among German pole vaulters, behind Annika Becker, and tied with Yvonne Buschbaum. [Wiki]

Pole vault queen Isinbayeva defends gold with new record

Yelena Isinbayeva of Russia put in yet another masterful display of high-class pole vaulting here on Monday to better her own world record on the way to defending Olympic gold.

The reigning double world and triple European champion cleared 5.05m, 1cm higher than her own world record of 5.04m set in Monaco last month.

"I love to be alone at the top," said Isinbayeva. "It's so cool and I will try to keep my position as long as possible."

"I like to prove it, not just say it. I like to prove who is the best and who is the strongest."

"I don't know how high I can go," she said. "My coach says I can go 5.20m or higher and I trust him." Source

Personal: Born in Newport Beach, Calif....parents are Allan and Cindy Stokke...has two brothers...brother, David, graduated from Cal in 1990...participated in competitive gymnastics for 10 years...made the U.S. youth team to compete in the 2005 World Youth Championships, but couldn't compete due to a broken leg.

Remember Allison Stokke? I bet you do! Now she's a freshman at Cal Berkeley and doing well for their women's track team. Looks like she did 13'1" this past weekend at the MPSF Championship. Here's her official Cal profile. Well, all we have is this one recent picture but no one will ever forget the first Allison picture that lit up inboxes. I wonder if she's still dating that douchebag? Hopefully more recent Cal pictures surface in the future. OW!
