Condi Rice deals with an unflattering portrayalWearing a mouthpiece and mole as Rice, the British actress Thandie Newton epitomizes the yes-woman, a loyalist who enabled the president's swagger. You have the feeling that if Bush ordered her to climb a flagpole, she'd discard her high heels and do it.
Because Rice was our local person in the White House — she was once Stanford's provost — it's made me think again about her place in history. "W.'' doesn't so much offer new information as it does display it on the big screen: Despite its flaws and fictions, it's the version my kids understand. Source

Oliver Stone shows surprising restraint with Bush biopic 'W'"Oliver Stone is ferociously intelligent. He is never going to give a one-sided look," said Thandie Newton, who plays Condoleezza Rice, Bush's national security adviser who later became secretary of state. "It's not going for the jugular. Absolutely not, because that would be so easy. That would be lazy, lazy, lazy, lazy. This is about finding the person, and then leaving it open for an audience to judge." Source

Elizabeth Banks vs Thandie Newton: "W." Premiere

Oliver Stone Feels Sorry for BushWhat director Stone is saying throughout is, there’s a lot that’s gone we simply don’t know about. "W" is not a jokey, one shot deal. Stone and Weiser have made a serious movie here that sometimes more evenhanded than you might like.
"W" almost bends over backwards to give George W. Bush the benefit of the doubt. Watching him during the walkup to the Iraqi war, you almost want to shout, "No, stop, bad idea!" But it’s too late. It’s to Stone and Brolin’s credit that you want George W. Bush to succeed in spite of his father and his background. Source

Don't call Thandie Newton 'ethnic'THANDIE Newton is an actress with real passion. Currently starring in Guy Ritchie's action comedy Rock N Rolla, the award-winning British talent plays Stella, a smart and sexy accountant who has ties to the criminal underworld of the property business. Playing a seductress seemed to come all too easily to the mother-of-two.
"I'm an actor and a performer, so I love to create characters," she said excitedly. "Acting is like my clay or my paint. I get to weld emotions and body language and dialogues to create an experience that's not me. Stella is very detached and that's not me at all. But I loved the experience of creating this character." Newton's theory - Thandie Newton interview
As she prepares to portray the most powerful woman in the world, Thandie Newton tells Siobhan Synnot why she has decided to finally put gravity to the test.
USUALLY cast in sympathetic roles, Thandie Newton gets to show her wicked side in the upcoming RocknRolla. Guy Ritchie's return to the scene of the crime genre has plenty of stylised violence and machine-gun dialogue, and at its centre is Newton playing an egg so hardboiled that even 300's Gerard Butler cracks up in her presence.
"She's a cold, cold woman," says the butter-voiced Newton cheerfully of her femme-fatale accountant – possibly the most unlikely hybrid since alcohol-free lager. And she wouldn't have her any other way. Despite the shadow of his high-profile wife, Ritchie isn't known for his powerful women characters, and Newton freely admits she pushed him to toughen up her character. [Scotsman]

Thandie Newton refused to film her sex scene with Gerard Butler in 'RocknRolla' because he was ill.
The 35-year-old actress - who plays stunning accountant Stella in Guy Ritchie's new movie - insisted the scene didn't involve her kissing him after she realised how sick Gerard was.
Thandie - who is only seen romping with the hunky actor in the movie - told BANG Showbiz: "I arrived on set for the sex scene to find Gerry was very unwell indeed. So I wouldn't kiss him.
"Guy had to improvise. I don't know how he coped with those problems but it ended up being one of the most brilliant scenes. But I did find it challenging having to climax in a close-up to camera." [My Park Magazine]

After looking one too many photo sets, I have to admit, Thandie Newton was one of the true beauties @ the event.
And the Wiki says...
Thandiwe Adjewa "Thandie" Newton (born November 6, 1972) is a BAFTA and SAG Award-winning British actress.
Newton married English writer and director Ol Parker in 1997. The couple have two daughters: Ripley, born in 2000, and Nico, born in 2004. Her daughters were named after the character Ripley in the Alien films and the cult singer of The Velvet Underground fame.
Newton swapped her BMW X5 for a Toyota Prius after protesters bombarded the car with eggs at the gates of her daughters’ school. She then wrote to her celebrity friends, asking them to join her in switching to more environmentally sound cars. [Wiki]

Thandie Newton is a naughty girl
"Thandie Newton was the queen of the pranks," Contactmusic quoted Schwimmer as saying. "When Simon was on set working, she would put cellophane on his toilet so when he went to go to the bathroom he splashed everywhere. She would take old underwear and rub it with Marmite and put it in his trailer... It was pretty disgusting," he said.
"I think the best one was when we were doing the press junket together in London, where the movie opened. Thandie, Simon and I were in three different rooms with all these on camera interviews.
"Thandie had got there hours before Simon and I, and she had filled every one of his 12 giant bottles of water with vodka. So when he was in the middle of his first interview on camera and he goes to take a (swig) during the interview, a huge gulp and just spits up everywhere all over the interviewer. That was probably the best prank," he added. Source
